Over three years of my time at Yampah I was given the privilege to teach a class and I loved every minute of it. My class was a creative writing class and I used Dungeons & Dragons as my catalyst. The class was about the relation between core English subjects and how they can be translated into Dungeons & Dragons. Throughout this experience I learned multiple things, especially take charge and act like a teacher instead of a friend or peer. This strained the relationships with them at times but never the less it was how it had to be. It taught me responsibility and how challenging it is to be a teacher and I have gained a whole new respect for the work that they do. Even though I was a friend to a large majority of my students they respected me and my class. It made me feel important because they showed up and participated like it was a normal class and didn't slack off. Overall the experience has impacted me in way that no other school could provide. It was a beneficial experience to me not only for the fact that I learned some of the challenges of being a teacher, but more importantly it reinvigorated my want for knowledge and to learn as much as possible.
